Through our Art curriculum, we aim to provide art lessons that will inspire our children to develop imagination, creativity and curiosity. As well as developing the skills to observe, communicate what they think or feel and create what they imagine.
We believe that every child is an artist, full of curiosity and wonder about the world around them. Therefore, our curriculum is carefully crafted to develop this innate curiosity, help spark wonder and provide our children with the tools to create their own personal artistic style.
In our Art, lessons, we aim to provide rich and progressive learning journey throughout Year 1 to Year 6 in which children are able to express their creativity, curiosity and imagination. This is supported through the study of famous artists, artwork and the opportunities to master and develop their own practical skills through practice and reflection.
Art Curriculum Design
Our Art Curriculum has been designed using ‘Chris Quigley’ essentials curriculum as a foundation to build and construct our own discrete curriculum. The scheme is progressive throughout the school, which builds on prior learning. The curriculum focusses on three fundamental ideologies; developing ideas, taking inspiration from the greats and mastering practical skills
We have designed our curriculum to cover National Curriculum content by ensuring all children; produce creative work, explore their own ideas and record their experiences. Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques. Develop skills to evaluate and analyse artworks using the language of art and design. Know about great artists, crafts makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
Our curriculum incorporates frequent opportunities for students to connect new learning to what they already know. The curriculum focusses on the progression of both knowledge and skills by exploring different media and materials, processes, techniques, colour theory, artists, art styles and periods, effects, emotions and visual language.
Children learn best when they are actively engaged in the entire process of creating artwork. Our curriculum encourages students to ask questions, reflect, and explore the artistic process. By providing opportunities for exploration and experimentation, we empower students to develop practical skills, the ability to reflect and critically evaluate.
Art specific vocabulary is taught to enable effective discussion around artists and artwork. Vocabulary for practical skills is explicitly taught and is revisited purposefully in succeeding years to help deepen understanding to aid in the building of and art and design scheme.
Our Curriculum will be implemented by expert teachers through:
